| 9:04 PM - Paste Magazine is cool....to boot. Category: Music Y'all. Seriously.
When I lived in Pittsburgh, I was a WYEP volunteer (see wyep.org!!) and received a free subscription to the now-defunct lovely music magazine called Tracks. When that magazine folded, everyone with subscriptions got to finish out the year with a replacement magazine--Paste. As much as I loved Tracks, I will never regret the switch, for I am infatuated with the Decatur-produced Paste.
Some of you attended the Paste Rock 'n' Reel festival in October--though not heavily populated, it provided audiences with a taste of great music (including Athens's own Elf Power, Hope for Agoldensummer, and Phosphorescent!) and cool films you wouldn't ordinarily see. The magazine is even cooler than the festival: if you subscribe, each bimonthly issue comes with a sampler CD with surprisingly varied, genuinely good music! You even get a DVD full of music videos, award-winning short films, and concert clips to boot.
Just when I thought it couldn't get any better, I stumbled across these two elements that have made my shameless promotion inevitable: 1. If you are a subscriber, you don't just get to listen to "Paste radio" for free (www.pastemagazine.com)--you get over 200 cdownloads FOR FREE (to boot!) from their site using your username & password. Sweet Jesus, this is great. 2. Issues, which usually cost $8.50/each, are MUCH less expensive if you buy subscriptions. The subscription for one cycle (8 issues) is usually $40, but now you can get a subscription for $29.95 and get a BONUS FREE GIFT SUBSCRIPTION TO BOOT.
Everyone should check it out. I promise it's worth it.
Adoringly, J'evelyn
