1/3/06 - Am I being stood up?

January 3, 2006 - Tuesday

9:33 PM - Am I being stood up? Right now I am waiting on a phone call. It's not really from a date, per se, but...my feelings are hurt all the same. Perhaps it's because I finished Curtis Sittenfeld's Prep this afternoon that I'm feeling extra-sensitive in that insecure high school style I've never been able to entirely shake. (The novel is quite good; it's of special interest to me since I focus on guided reading for gifted students.) Will I ever date (or not date, as the case may be) someone whom I'll trust when he says, "I'll call you tomorrow"? I sure do hope so. Maybe I'm not giving my buddy here enough credit. Maybe I'm also hoping that as soon as I finish this and eat my macaroni for dinner, there'll be a call and I'll realize I was being overdramatic as usual. I'm so mature and secure in most facets of my life, but when it comes to this boy scene I am a 15 year old silly mess. Grr.. SUPER JAN!!

For those of you who are yearning to know what happened after I posted at 9:30 PM, here's your update: things ended up being fine. Turns out my friend was half-standing me up, half-not--long story. We ended up having a really nice time together; it was nice to see him before he left town. Thanks for the feedback, Tim. :)
